A motorized “DIY Music Box” that plays custom paper strips.
Inspired by Martin Molin from Wintergatan I have designed and built a motorized Music Box.
It consists of a 30 note “DIY Music Box” from Grand Illusions in the key F, two stepper motors, stepper motor drivers, OLED display, speed sensor and an Arduino.
The pulling mechanism is a combination of a 3D-printed barrel with 3 rubber rings, bearings, timing belts and pulleys.
It runs on 24V, has MIDI IN for start, stop and speed, and displays the BPM.
The paper strips are cut and decorated with a Cricut cutting machine, as instructed by Jared from Music Box Rox
